ASEAN writers talk reading books in Laos

Nearly 20 writers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) stressed the significance of reading books to young people, especially students, at an exchange programme that opened in Vientiane, Laos, on May 9.

Hundreds of students of the National University of Laos participated in the exchange with the writers who come from Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

The writers described reading books as the key to open the door of development, saying reading equips people with more knowledge and understanding about the world.

As part of the programme, workshops and exchanges will be held on the reading and use of the Lao language for both Lao and foreign students.

On this occasion, there is a book exhibition displaying hundreds of book titles from ASEAN countries.

The annual event will last until May 11, 2018.
