Ho Chi Minh City has few arts centres, so the establishment of the Factory Contemporary Arts Centre supports the development of contemporary arts in Vietnam and gives a chance for discovery, work and exchange between artists and audiences.
Many large exhibitions and contemporary arts projects have been organised at the centre which impressed visitors. At the first exhibition, TechNoPhobe, by artists in Ho Chi Minh City, visitors were surprised by modern technology artworks, such as 3D printing and video holograms, audience-activated sound installations, smart phone apps, motion sensing video and animation.
Relating to installation arts, exhibitions like “Nang bang phang” (Flat sunlight) by Lena Bui or “Lac chon” (Dislocated) of Bui Cong Khanh showcased at the centre also brought new and unique viewpoints about contemporary arts’ values.
The arts centre recently has organised many classes of watercolour painting and sketching, and calligraphy. There are also many conversations between artists and viewers which help people learn more about their favourite type of art.
Besides space for the arts, the centre also has a library and space for visitors to enjoy coffee and food.
