Three waterway projects in Mekong Delta proposed

The Vietnam Inland Waterway Administration has proposed the Ministry of Transport consider and invest in three waterway transport projects in the Mekong Delta under public-private-partnership (PPP) form.

The first is the upgrading of an 86km stretch of the Ham Luong River to allow passage of vessels of up to 5,000 DWT.

The project also involves construction of a transit port and a 2000 sq.m warehouse by 2020. In 2030, one more transit port and 4,000 sq.m of warehouse will be built. Total cost is estimated around 500 billion VND (21.9 million USD).

Meanwhile, the construction of the My Thuan ferry port in Tien Giang province and that of Tan Chau Port in An Giang province are expected to cost 20 billion VND and 25 billion VND respectively.

Among the 217 central-level nominees, 51 are women, accounting for 23.5%, 21 are from ethnic minority groups (9.68%), and 138 are incumbent deputies seeking re-election (63.59%). In terms of qualifications, 28 hold university degrees (12.9%), 189 have postgraduate degrees (87.09%), and none are below university level.
