Thailand gears up for 12th ASEAN Skills Competition

Thailand is gearing up for the 12th ASEAN Skills Competition to be held in Bangkok from August 31 to September 2.

The competition allows the region’s youth to exchange experience in skill development, helping them keep pace with new technologies, meet international standards and ultimately enhance the potential of ASEAN.

Thai Labour Minister Pol Gen Adul Saengsingkaew said preparations for the competition have been completed. Various agencies have contributed their expertise to organise the event and ensure transparency and fairness. The Public Relations Department will be disseminating information in both Thai and English through all media channels.

The competition will consist of 26 occupations grouped into six categories, consisting of industrial technology, web design and communications, fashion and creative industries, transportation and logistics, construction and buildings and personal and social services.

Adul said all occupations represent the skills necessary for the development of target industries in the country. The competition serves to prepare the next generation to meet the needs of the future labour market. It is also an opportunity for Thailand to be recognised for its skills, which will in turn attract foreign investment.

He invited Thais to be good hosts to the participating countries and to support the Thai competitors.
