Southeast Asian Shooting Championship 2016 begins

Hanoi, November 3 (VNA) – The Southeast Asian Shooting Association Championship (SEASA) 2016 began at the Hanoi National Sports Training Centre on November 2.

The event features 252 athletes and coaches from nine countries and territories, including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea and host Vietnam.

Shooters will compete in 18 categories for both men and women.

At the opening ceremony, Vice Secretary General of Vietnam Shooting Federation Nguyen Thi Nhung said the annual SEASA allows shooters to compete and sharpen their skills before the upcoming SEA Games, regional and international tournaments.

Vietnam aims to finish in the top 3 of the tournament.

The competition is scheduled to run until November 11.

Vietnam’s shooting team has gained many achievements in regional and international competitions in recent years. Shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh made history by earning Vietnam’s first Olympic gold at Rio 2016.

Among the 217 central-level nominees, 51 are women, accounting for 23.5%, 21 are from ethnic minority groups (9.68%), and 138 are incumbent deputies seeking re-election (63.59%). In terms of qualifications, 28 hold university degrees (12.9%), 189 have postgraduate degrees (87.09%), and none are below university level.
