Seven take home top prizes at national press awards

Hanoi, June 22 (VNA) – The 11th National Press Awards ceremony was held in Hanoi on June 21, with seven press agencies taking home first prizes.

Speaking at the annual event, which took place on the occasion of the Vietnam Press Day (June 21), President Tran Dai Quang acknowledged and expressed his appreciation for the great contributions made to the country by journalists and press organisations nationwide.

He hoped that the press would continue to act as a bridge between the Party-Government and the people, while paying an active role in supervising the operations of the Government.

“The journalists should further participate in the fight against corruption, wastefulness and the moral degradation of society,” he added.

According to the awards’ council, 1,637 works from 214 press organisations and individuals were submitted for competition.

Out of 129 finalists, 95 won awards, of which seven were top prizes.

Journalists from the Vietnam News Agency scooped five prizes, including a top award.
