PM to co-chair Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee meeting

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc will attend and co-chair the 40th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee in Laos on February 4-5, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He will be accompanied by a high-ranking Government delegation, as guests of Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, added the ministry.

Vietnam and Laos have enjoyed close-knit traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation.

Trade between Laos and Vietnam topped 900 million USD in 2017, a year-on-year increase of over 10 percent. The two countries have set a target of 4 billion USD by 2020.

Vietnamese companies have invested 5 billion USD in 276 projects in Laos, mainly in energy, services, infrastructure, mining, agriculture and forestry.

Vietnam, IAEA comprehensively assess national nuclear power infrastructure

The delegation, led by Eric Mathet, Operational Lead, the IAEA’s Nuclear Infrastructure Development Section, evaluated the current status of Vietnam’s national nuclear infrastructure according to the assessment criteria outlined by the IAEA for Stage 2 – assessing the readiness of a country to invite bids or negotiate contracts for the construction of its first nuclear power plant.
