PM attends Industry 4.0 Summit and Expo 2018

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the opening ceremony for the Industry 4.0 Summit and Expo 2018 in Hanoi on July 13.

Themed “Vision and Development Strategy in the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, the event saw Government officials and nearly 1,800 representatives from localities, domestic and foreign experts, businesses and embassies in attendance.

Head of the Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh, who co-chaired the event with the Prime Minister, stressed the opportunities brought by Industry 4.0, which helps improve technology and production capacities as well as competitive edge in the global value chain.

However, an irrational approach will make Vietnam lag behind regional countries in terms of technology, and face redundancy of unskilled labourers, and inequality in society, he said, adding that soft power, cyber space security and trans-boundary cyber-crimes are other challenges that need to be tackled.

Before attending the summit, PM Phuc cut the ribbon to kick off the international exhibition on Industry 4.0, with 50 booths of leading technology providers of state-of-the-art technology solutions such as computer integrated manufacturing (CIM), smart plant, nano technology, renewable energies and blockchain, among others.

The highlight of the event was the appearance of Sophia, the world’s first robot citizen. The special guest responded to various questions related to sustainable development and potential to apply artificial intelligence in production.

According to the agenda, PM Phuc will attend a policy dialogue themed “Vietnamese Policy on Enhancing Access to the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.
