Photo contest on environment launched

Invitations are open for a photo contest among Vietnamese and expatriate photographers to showcase their works on the environment and life.

Titled “Moi Truong Và Cuoc Song (Environment and Life),” the contest will be co-organised by online Vietnam Urban and Environment Magazine and the Vietnam Association of Photography Artists (VAPA). The aim of the competition is to encourage amateur and professional photographers to explore and interact with their environment in daily life.

The organisers want the photography community to join efforts to protect the environment by developing sustainable relations between humans and nature, said the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Dong Xuan Thu.

It also aims to help people to be aware of environmental pollution and raise their awareness to protect the environment, he added.

The photographs can feature natural and biodiversity beauty, the interaction between humans and nature and daily activities related to the environment. Participants are also encouraged to capture the activities of individuals and organisations aimed at environment protection.

The photos should reflect how pollution affects the environment and human health.

Participating photographers can submit coloured or black and white photos of 20cmx30cm. They can submit either a single photo or a series of photos. Each series should have six to eight photos, and each series can be represented by one candidate. There is no limit to the number of photos submitted by each photographer. The photos taken from 2017 to date will be given priority.

Photographers have to take responsibility for their work’s copyright. The competition organisers will be allowed to use the winning photos and those selected for exhibition for promotional activities, such as communication and advertisement, without paying the photographers.

The photographs that are deemed unsuitable to Vietnamese customs and morals will be rejected without announcement. The organisers will receive the photos directly in office at Room 1802A, M3M4 Building, No.91, Nguyen Chi Thanh street, Dong Da district, Hanoi, or by post.

For online submission, the photographers have to email jpg image files, 5MB or larger in size and 300 DPI (dots per inch) in resolution, to cuocthianhmoitruongvacuocsong@gmail.com. The last date for submission is October 20, 2018.

The jury will include veteran photographers from VAPA, veteran journalists and environment experts.

The award ceremony is expected to be held in November, and the 100 best photos will be showcased at an exhibition in December.
