Outstanding start-up in agricultural digital transformation

Known as an outstanding start-up of agriculture digital transformation in Vietnam, Pham Ngoc Anh Tung is the founder of a prestigious online agricultural products trading platform, the FoodMap.asia which has received many domestic and international awards for startups.
When Pham Ngoc Anh Tung worked as a manager for Cau Dat Farm, he saw the difficulties of Vietnamese farmers with the story of "bigger crops, lower prices; smaller crops, higher prices". In 2018, Tung started a new journey to set up FoodMap, a trading platform for agricultural products.

The platform operates with the idea of bringing agricultural merchandise from the farm straight to the table, eliminating intermediaries, so that farmers and customers can benefit the most.

After three years of operation, the e-commerce platform has built three separate brands including Delicious Specialty (sugar, honey and vegetables), Maloka (tea and coffee) and HappyNut (nutritious nuts). To date the company has cooperated with more than 100 farmers or manufacturers, providing products from more than 20 provinces to more than 5,000 end users and retailers.

To convince farmers and suppliers to join the platform, Tung and his co-workers went to the farms to listen to their stories about cultivating. By helping farmers and suppliers tell their products’ stories, giving more professional images to consumers and increasing the value of their products, FoodMap persuaded the suppliers to join the agricultural product trading platform.

To solve the difficult problem in the agricultural supply chain located in the post-harvest stage and minimizing inventory, the company chose to operate under the pre-order model, accounting for about 30-35% products sold and provided to both B2B (70%) and B2C (30%) customers. The platform has been the champion in the final round of Blue Venture Award 2021.

It was honored as one of ten outstanding Agri-tech enterprises of the Asia - Pacific region in 2020 and won first prize in the final round of the Startup Hunt 2020 contest. In the same year, by successfully receiving 500,000 US dollarsfrom Wavemaker Companions Enterprise Fund (Singapore), Foodmap opened the first offline retailer in Ho Chi Minh City.

The platform has cooperated with Lazada, Tiki, Grab, Vietjet Cargo, Department of E-Commerce, Department of Trade Promotion and agricultural associations such as BSA, VIDA and VASEP to support farmers nationwide in agricultural products consumption.
