Nike Group to expand investment in Binh Duong

Sportswear giant Nike Group has affirmed that it will continue to expand production in Binh Duong province, Nguyen Thanh Toan, Sai Gon Giai phong newspaper said, quoting Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of the southern industrial hub.

According to the newspaper, leaders of the Foreign Investment Agency under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai and Binh Duong had a meeting with Nike representatives on October 6 on the reopening of production in a safe manner.

At the meeting, participants agreed that currently, Binh Duong, HCM City, Dong Nai and Nike Group are effectively coordinating in preparing for the resumption of the group’s production chain in the southeastern region, especially Binh Duong where 20 factories of Nike are located.

Currently, many workers in Nike factories have returned to work in the ‘new normal’ situation.

The same day, the Centre for Employment Services of Binh Duong said that a number of local firms have registered to recruit nearly 50,000 labourers.

Also on October 6, the People’s Committee of the southern province of Long An said that it is striving to have 40 percent of total over 13,483 firms with about 370,000 workers resuming operations until October 15. The figure is expected to reach 70 percent in the end of December.

Due to COVID-19, Long An is facing a severe shortage of labourers. The provincial People’s Committee has advised local firms to build their support policies and plan to receive workers from other localities to Long An for working as soon as possible. The locality will prioritise the vaccination against COVID-19 for workers, according to the committee./.
