Nam Cuong group to build first astronomy park in Southeast Asia

Hanoi, July 5 (VNA) – The Nam Cuong Group, a big name in the Vietnam’s realty market, said it will invest more than 260 billion VND (11.43 million USD) in a 12-ha astronomy park to the west of Hanoi.

The park, the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, is located within the 200-ha Duong Noi Township.

The park will feature advanced scientific research and entertainment themes on an area roughly equal to the size of the 15-ha Kazan Planetarium in Russia, the world’s first astronomy park. At the centre of the park, there will be a 6-ha lake named Bach Hop Thuy.

Speaking to the press in Hanoi on July 4, Viet Cuong Group vice chairwoman Tran Thi Quynh Ngoc said the facility will be an exciting destination for those who love science and space exploration, since not much investment has been made in astronomy in Vietnam compared with other sciences.

The project will be built in two phases. Phase 1 will last for about a year, covering the building of eight major and 41 other facilities, which include squares, an outdoor stage and a waterfall.

The park will be developed under the guidance of Nguyen Xuan Anh, head of the Institute of Geophysics under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Italian landscape design company Ego Landscape.

A website on astronomy will be developed, providing information on current phenomena and new information about astronomy. International scientific conferences will also be held at the site.
