Hanoi, October 27 (VNA) – Head of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee’s Economic Commission Nguyen Van Binh had a meeting with Christiana Figueres, leader of the Mission 2020 on climate change response.
Hailing contributions of Figueres to responding to climate change in the world, including Vietnam, Binh affirmed that Vietnam always considers climate change response, power security and green and renewable energy development as priorities in its socio-economic strategy.
He also noted that Vietnam is one of the five most vulnerable countries to climate change.
For her part, Figueres, who acted as the Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change for the 2010-2016 tenure, spoke highly of Vietnam’s efforts and achievements in climate change response.
She expressed hope that Vietnam will become an example for developing countries in mitigating climate change and transforming energy structure towards greener and more sustainable.
At the meeting, Binh also voiced his hope to receive closer cooperation and support from Figueres in researching and dealing with climate change as well as developing green and renewable energy.
