Joint efforts made to ensure safety for women, children

The Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) has designated 2019 as the safe year for women and children, aiming to mobilise the engagement of the entire political system and society in joint efforts to ensure safety for the groups.

These efforts have been made for many years, contributing to realising sustainable and millennium development goals, as well as the 2011-2020 national strategy of gender equality, Nguyen Thi Tuyet, VWU’s Vice President, said at a press conference in Hanoi on March 1.

This year’s programme will focus on safety for women and children in different environments such as family, school, workplace and social network, along with food safety and hygiene.

Tuyet said a ceremony to mark the 109th International Women’s Day and launch the programme will be organised in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City on March 6 with various activities such as painting exhibitions, a showcase of safe farm produce, and health and law consultations.

Winners of the Kovalevskaya Award 2018, which is designed to honour the most outstanding female scientists who have gained remarkable achievements in the scientific research and application, will be announced at a ceremony at the Hanoi Medical University on March 4.

On this occasion, there will be an exchange between female scientists and students, the official said.

The VWU Central Committee in conjunction with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee and the UN Women will hold a dialogue with students on gender equality and safety for women and children at the Hanoi Law University on March 13.
