Incense burning connects moral and spiritual worlds

Incense burning has been a long tradition of all Asian people, including Vietnamese. Incense sticks have accompanied generations of Vietnamese people in their spiritual life and become a respectable tradition.

The practice of incense burning reflects the influence of patriarchy and Confucianism on Vietnamese culture. An ancestral altar is set with ancestral tablets and pictures, together with an incense burner bowl in the centre as a symbol of the stars. Inside the bowl usually stands a circular incense stick that represents the universe.
