HCM City, Germany’s Saxony-Anhalt state look to expand cooperation

Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem on November 21 hosted a reception for visiting Minister of Economic Affairs, Science and Digitalisation of Saxony-Anhalt state of Germany Armin Willingmann.

During the meeting, Liem highlighted the sound development of the Vietnam-Germany strategic partnership across fields, especially in economics, trade, culture and education.

HCM City established cooperative ties with Leipzig and Frankfurt cities of Germany, which is a foundation for expanding cooperation between the Vietnamese southern city with other German localities in the coming time, he said.

Liem highly valued Saxony-Anhalt state’s strengths in energy, mechanical engineering, IT, biotechnology and medical technology, saying that HCM City is in need of these fields and others such as railway, infrastructure, transport and seaport, and science-technology as well.

The municipal authorities will create all favourable conditions for German enterprises, including those from Saxony-Anhalt state, to invest in the city.

For his part, Willingmann spoke highly of cooperation between the two countries as well as locality-to-locality collaboration, saying that businesses of Saxony-Anhalt are interested in investment cooperation in Vietnam, including HCM City.

He agreed to enhance cooperation and share experience with HCM City in education-training, expressing his belief that this will be a good chance for enterprises and educational establishments of both sides to expand partnership, especially in vocational and high-quality human resources training.

Germany is one of the large foreign direct investors in HCM City with 162 projects worth 286 million USD. The prominent projects are the German House in HCM City, Metro Line No. 2. The trade value between Germany and HCM City hit nearly 1.4 billion USD in the first nine months of 2019.
