The capital city of Hanoi will change the 11-digit telephone numbers to 10-digit ones from September 15, stated the municipal Department of Information and Communications on June 14.

All 11-digit numbers with prefixes 120, 121, 122, 126 and 128 of MobiFone will be converted to 70, 79, 77, 76 and 78.

Those of Vinaphone with prefixes 123,124, 125, 127 and 129 will be 83, 84, 85, 81 and 82, while numbers of Viettel with prefixes 162, 163, 164, 165, 166, 167, 168, and 169 will be changed to 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 and 39.

Prefixes 186 and 188 of Vietnamobile’s numbers will be shifted to 56 and 58, and the prefix 199 of Gmobile will be 59.

Besides, the last seven digits of VSAT satellite phone number will remain unchanged, only the operator code 99 will be changed to 67.

The changing period will start at 00:00 of September 15, 2018 and end at 23:59 of June 30, 2019.

To minimise the impact on users during the conversion process, the service providers must give a notice about the change to subscribers through mass media from June 15 to September 15. They must also allow normal calls to the old numbers as well as new ones until November 14.

From November 15, 2018 to June 30, 2019, calls will only be made using the new numbers and there will be guidance for callers.
