Hanoi students win big at 2018 Challenge for Future Mathematicians

All 48 students of the Hanoi delegation to the Challenge for Future Mathematicians (CFM) 2018 have secured individual and team prizes.

The event ran in Indonesia from October 27 to 30.

Accordingly, the young mathematicians from the capital city of Hanoi obtained seven gold, 16 silver, 20 bronze, and 5 consolation medals in the individual category. Meanwhile their teamwork brought in one champion honour, four fist and four silver prizes. 

The achievement was the highest recorded among participating countries at the competition.

Challenge for Future Mathematicians is an international contest for students from grade 3 to 8. Since 2014, it has annually been held in alternating countries.

Last year, Vietnam won three gold, 11 silver and 24 bronze medals at the event.

In the central province of Quang Ngai, one of the localities with the largest number of unidentified war martyrs' graves, hundreds of officers, soldiers and specialists are pressing ahead with the nationwide 500-day campaign to collect biological samples and digitise grave records for DNA analysis, with the hope of restoring the names of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation.
