Hanoi launches first book street

Addressing the opening ceremony, Ngo Van Quy, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, said that after four months of construction, Hanoi launched the first street for book introduction, which also serves as a space for readers to access diverse book sources and talk with domestic and foreign authors.

He expressed hope that the space will become a cultural highlight of the city, while meeting the reading demand of locals.

Meanwhile, PhanLanTu, head of the municipal Department of Information and Communications, said that the agency is working to set up a management board for the book street to better support its operation in an effective way and deal with arising issues.

At the same time, the department will coordinate closely with units located in the street to organise book introduction and copyright trading activities, he added.

The street has 16 booths with easy access for children and people with disabilities, along with public computers for readers to search for book information, free wifi and water.

Following the opening ceremony, a number of events were held, including exchanges with a number of authors and book distributors.
