Hanoi boosts ties with ASEAN capital cities

Hanoi, December 16 (VNA) – A delegation of Hanoi Party Committee led by Vice Standing Secretary Ngo Thi Thanh Hang paid working visits to Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia in early December to foster friendship and cooperation with the capital cities of regional countries.   

While in Myanmar, the delegation held a meeting with the Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, Myo Aung, on December 5. The two sides agreed on specific activities to enhance ties between Hanoi and Nay Pyi Taw, with a focus on promoting trade, investment and tourism. The two cities will also increase the exchange of delegations to boost mutual understanding and trust.

In Indonesia, the Hanoi delegation had a working session with Jakarta’s Vice Governor Sahat Perulian, during which Hanoi proposed expanding bilateral cooperation in urban management and development, and cultural heritage conservation, besides economic and tourism ties.

Vice Governor Sahat Perulian noted his wish that the two cities will sign an agreement on exchanging urban planning experts in 2017 as early as possible.

In Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri MHD. Amin Nordin ABD. Aziz received the Hanoi delegation on December 13.

The Hanoi Party official stressed the Vietnamese capital city’s policy of developing friendly and cooperative ties with other capital cities and cities in ASEAN, especially after the establishment of the ASEAN Community.

The Mayor of Kuala Lumpur responded that he hopes to increase cooperation with Hanoi, which boasts high-quality farm produce and traditional handicrafts.

On the occasion, the two sides agreed to assign their agencies to research and make recommendations on activities to promote trade, investment and tourism in Hanoi next year.

The outcomes of the trip are expected to lay the foundation for practical and effective partnerships between Hanoi and the capital cities of Myanmar, Indonesia and Myanmar in the time ahead./.
