Ha Long poetry night gathers 200 Vietnamese, foreign delegates

The Ha Long international poetry night took place in the northern province of Quang Ninh on February 18 as part of the ongoing third International Poetry Festival 2019 and the 17th Vietnam Poetry Day.

The event drew nearly 200 poets, writers and translators from 46 countries and territories. Many foreign poets introduced their works featuring the nation and people of Vietnam.

Chairman of the Vietnam Writers’ Association Huu Thinh said this year, Vietnam Poetry Day in Quang Ninh sees the combination of national and international characteristics thanks to the participation of the poets, writers and translators from Vietnam and abroad. This also makes this year’s event a miniature global poetry festival, he held.

Earlier at a reception for the foreign delegates, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quang Ninh Vu Thi Thu Thuy said it is an honour for Quang Ninh to host the International Poetry Festival, which gives it a chance to introduce the people and land of a locality with more than 600 relic sites and landscapes, including Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO-recognised World Natural Heritage.

She expressed her hope that participants at the event will be inspired by the land and people of Quang Ninh to create new works.

Earlier the same day, delegates visited Ha Long Bay.
