Grilled pork skewer rolls with banh hoi

Known as a typical dish in Vietnam’s central area, grilled pork skewer rolls with banh hoi are also popular in many localities in the country.
The dish is a great blend of grilled pork, banh hoi and herbs. Banh hoi, a special freshly made rice noodle, is made using a special process. It brings a delicate taste to the rolls which is not easy to find in other dishes.

Grilled pork skewers consist of ground pork grilled with lemongrass. Other ingredients include black pepper, pork skin, garlic, shallots, and fish sauce. The meat combination is rolled into a sausage shape around a lemongrass stick, and it's then brushed with oil and grilled over a coal stove until slightly charred.

Vietnamese herbs and rice paper are rolled like a spring roll while the grilled pork skewer and banh hoi are used as the filling. The roll then is dipped in a sweet and sour sauce which gives it an irresistibly delicious taste. The dish is served as a main course or a snack in the afternoon.
