Trung Khanh Chestnuts

Chestnuts with their large size, thick shell, golden, flavorful and nutty flesh, and high nutritional content.

Chestnuts are known as a specialty of Trung Khanh District, Cao Bang Province with their large size, thick shell, golden, flavorful and nutty flesh, and high nutritional content.

Trung Khanh chestnuts are grown in high mountainous regions with a cool climate and abundant streams and rivers, providing favourable conditions for the trees to thrive. This environment contributes to the superior quality of Trung Khanh chestnuts compared to those grown in other areas. Harvesting typically occurs in September and October each year.

The preparation of Trung Khanh chestnuts is quite simple. For roasted chestnuts, start by thoroughly washing them and allowing them to drain. Then, place the chestnuts in a pan over low heat and roast until they turn golden and emit a fragrant aroma. For boiled chestnuts, rinse them well, then cook them in boiling water until tender. Remove from the water and enjoy.

Additionally, there's a special dish called chestnut porridge. To make it, rinse rice thoroughly and cook it in water until tender. Once the porridge is cooked, add peeled chestnuts and simmer for an additional 10 minutes and season to taste. As for chestnut sweet soup, peel the chestnuts and boil them until tender. Prepare a syrup with sugar, ginger, and pomelo flowers. Add the chestnuts and simmer for five more minutes. Turn off the heat and let it cool for a refreshing, nutritious dessert.
