A collection of 105 art works by 102 women artists are on display at the HCM City Fine Arts Association.

The exhibition titled Xuan (Spring) includes paintings and sculptures in different media, including oil, acrylic, water colour, lacquer and pottery.

The works’ themes are about landscape, lifestyle, people, portrait and flowers, created by veteran and young artists from the association and the HCM City University of Fine Arts.

Nguyen Thi Tam of the association, 82, best known for her paintings of lotuses and the country’s landscapes, is displaying Nam Moi (New Year) featuring images of pink cherry blossoms in the sun.

Tam, a native of the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang, graduated in oil painting from the Gia Dinh Fine Arts College in 1958. She has taken part in 20 solo and group exhibitions in Vietnam, France, the US and Germany, among others.

Dang Ai Viet introduces her still painting called Hoa Xuan (Flowers of Spring) which includes a vase of a bunch of lilies in bright colours of red, orange and yellow.

The 71-year-old Viet spent all her life travelling from HCM City to Hanoi to paint portraits of Vietnamese Heroic Mother. Her paintings have been exhibited across Vietnam.

Veteran artists of the association like Viet Kim Quyen and Tran Thuy Linh are also showcasing their paintings along with young artists from the university Nguyen Tri Minh Thu and Lu Thi Bao Ngoc.

Thu’s oil painting is of a beautiful and modern woman called She, while Ngoc’s ceramic sculpture featured a young woman called Chi Gai O Thon (Sister in the Countryside).

Visitor Le Van Tien of District 3 said: “The exhibition is a chance to know more about women and their spirit through beautiful paintings and sculpture. I admire their talents.”

The exhibition runs until March 16. The association is at 218A Pasteur Street in District 3.
