British couple share stories of their quarantine time in Vietnam

A British couple, who landed in Hanoi on March 1 on Vietnam Airlines flight VN0054, had “5 wonderful days” in the capital city before they were contacted and told that a Vietnamese woman on their flight had tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2.

They then had to spend 14 days in quarantine. The following is the letter in which they shared stories about their quarantine time in Vietnam.

"We are a British couple who came to Vietnam on March 1st Flight VN54 on holiday. After spending five wonderful days in Hanoi and beyond we found ourselves in Dong Da General Hospital being tested for Covid-19. This was because a Vietnamese lady had tested positive since arriving back in Vietnam on the same flight as ours.

We were told that we would have to spend 14 days in quarantine but relieved that our results came back negative, we hadn’t caught the virus.

The hospital facilities are different to those in Britain – however we had all the requirement we needed. We struggled with the language until we found one doctor who spoke English and was very helpful and informative. Our guide called Nam from ICS was also very supportive and provided us with a few extra items, which as tourists we needed and did not have with us.

We respect the fact that this is what had to happen in the circumstances and we are very thankful to the hospital and all the staff for looking after us so well.

Both
Cath and David Butler."
