Asian volleyball champs to kicks off in Bac Ninh this weekend

The Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship will kick off in northern Bac Ninh province on June 10.

Vietnam are scheduled to face Thailand on the opening day. The host next meet China on June 11 and Japan on June 12.

Coach Pham Minh Dung selected 14 players for the event including strikers Bui Thi Bich Phuong and Doan thi My Tien and libero Dam Thi Thuy Linh.

Vietnam are in Group A with defending champion China, Japan and Thailand.

Group B consists of the Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan and India.

Group C includes China’s two special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao, Australia and Iran; while Group D has Malaysia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan.

At the previous championship in 2016 in Thailand, China finished first, followed by Japan, Thailand and Vietnam.

The Asian Women’s U19 Volleyball Championship is a biennial volleyball competition in Asia and Oceania contested by the under-19 women’s teams of the members of the Asian Volleyball Confederation.

This year event will run through June 17.
