ASEAN graphic art works displayed in Hanoi

Hanoi, December 14 (VNA) – An exhibition showcasing outstanding works selected from the second ASEAN Graphic Art Competition – Vietnam 2016 opened in Hanoi on December 14.    

The competition was held by the Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibition and International Cooperation Department of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry of Vietnam, in collaboration with the ASEAN countries’ embassies in Vietnam and the Vietnamese embassies in ASEAN countries.   

The contest offered an opportunity for Vietnamese and ASEAN artists to exchange experience and showcase new works of print painting and graphic art.   

The organising board received 340 entries from 198 artists from 10 ASEAN countries and selected 11 outstanding works for awards. The first prize was presented to a carved wood painting of Praween Piangchoompoo from Thailand.

On display are 138 works of 108 ASEAN painters featuring their countries and people in contemporary life, which strengthen the solidarity and friendship among the people and cooperation and development in art among the ASEAN countries.

The ehibition will last until December 22 at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts.

Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang said that the Vietnamese delegation made important contributions to the summit’s success, reflecting the foreign policy orientation set out by the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, which continues to place ASEAN at the centre of Vietnam’s regional engagement, as well as its commitment to proactive, positive and responsible contributions to ASEAN Community-building process.
