The sixth Ao Dai (traditional long dress) Festival in Ho Chi Minh City concluded with a closing ceremony on March 17.

More than 100,000 people engaged in 15 programmes and activities of the two-week festival, which honoured the everlasting values of the traditional costume.

Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen affirmed that the sixth festival was a success. During the event, nearly 5,000 sets of ao dai and fabric to make ao dai were presented to female labourers in the city, he added.

Besides, ao dai competitions attracted the participation of more than 2,600 Vietnamese and foreign contestants living in the city.

Tuyen voiced his hope that the Ao Dai Festival will become a tourism draw for the southern economic hub.

The 2019 Ao Dai Festival, organised by the municipal Department of Tourism and the Vietnam Women’s Union – HCM City chapter, took place across various tourist spots of the city, such as Bui Vien and Nguyen Hue pedestrian zones, the city’s post office, the War Remnants Museum, the Ao Dai Museum and several public places.

The event also attracted 26 leading ao dai designers from across the nation and featured a collection by a designer from the Republic of Korea.

Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 H’Hen Nie, who was among the top five of Miss Universe 2018, was involved with the festival.

Since 2014, the HCM City Ao Dai Festival has been held annually in early March. The festival aims to honour Vietnam’s traditional costume and promote HCM City’s tourism to domestic and foreign visitors.
