New Delhi, January 24 (VNA) – The 4th ministerial consultation meeting of the Abu Dhabi Dialogue (ADD) began in Colombo, Sri Lanka on January 23, attracting ministers for labour affairs from 17 member nations of the dialogue.
During the two-day meeting, participants discussed promoting bilateral and multilateral cooperation in tackling challenges related to recruitment and explored alternative recruitment models.
After the third event of this kind in Dubai last year, Sri Lanka became chair of the fourth ADD Ministerial Consultation meeting, which saw representatives from Afghanistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Vietnam.
Established in 2008, the Abu Dhabi Dialogue launched a collaborative approach to addressing development in temporary labour mobility in Asia. It was initiated to boost common understanding and to influence practices and policies in contractual labour for the region.
Its works concentrate on developing and sharing knowledge on labour market trends, skills profiles, workers and remittances policies and flows, and the relationship to development; building capacity for more effective matching of labour supply and demand; preventing illegal recruitment and promoting welfare and protection measures for contractual workers; and developing a comprehensive approach to managing temporary contractual work for the interests of countries of origin and destination.
The ADD aims to enhance links within the group in improving working condition for employees.
