The 4th “Golden Moment” Photo Contest Honours Excellent Press Photos

The 4th “Golden Moment” Photo Contest attracted the participation of photographers and photojournalists nationwide with works reflecting hot issues of the country which have had a great influence on society.
“The contest aims to gather press photos that vividly reflect memorable moments and events across the country. Through the contest, VNA hopes to contribute to improving the quality of Vietnamese journalism photos,” said Nguyen Duc Loi, member of the Party Central Committee and General Director of Vietnam News Agency.  
 
The “Golden Moment” Photo Contest, in its fourth edition, was launched by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) in collaboration with the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists (VAPA).  It is the most anticipated event by both journalists and photographers as it honours the most outstanding works which reflect all aspects of society, ranging from politics, economics, culture and sports, to science and technology.

This year’s entries brought to focus  hot, current issues of the nation, such as the flooded area in Lao Cai, sea encroachment and forest destruction in Quang Nam, droughts in the Central Highlands and Southern Central region, sand intrusion in the Me Kong River Delta and the Formosa related environmental issue. Besides, they also show minor Vietnam’s achievements in national construction and defense and many important political events in recent years.

“The 4th “Golden Moment” Photo Contest drew the participation of photojournalists from press agencies nationwide. Most of them are young photographers whose photos have press value," said reporter Nguyen Thang – Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Pictorial, Vietnam News Agency and Deputy Head of the Council of the 4th “Golden Moment” Photo Contest.
The contest is important in preserving and promoting the cultural characteristics of 54 ethnic groups with festivals, hobbies and customs.

From July 5 to August 31, the organising board received 6,343 entries from 624 photographers nationwide. The jury awarded Pham Bang from Cao Bang a gold medal for his photo essay entitled "Sau con lu du” (After a Fierce Flood).

The jury also handed out four silver and six bronze medals, and 11 consolation prizes to single photos and photos.
The work entitled “Gian khoan Tam Dao 05-Cong trinh ngang tam the gioi” (Tam Dao 05 Oil-rig – a world-class project) by Le Manh Linh, Le Quang Nhut and Doan Manh Duong received the “Best work on oil and gas” prize of PetroVietnam.
As many as 71 best photos selected from the contest were displayed at VNA’s headquarters at No.5 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hanoi.

The 4th“Golden Moment” Photo Contest was launched from July 5 to August 31.The contest’s organising board received 6,343 entries from 624 photographers nationwide. They include 5,793 single photos and 550 photos essays. After several days of working hard, the contest’s jury awarded a gold medal, four silver medals, six bronze medals and 11 consolation prizes for excellent photos of single and photo essays and selected 71 high quality photographs for display at Vietnam News Agency's headquarters at No.5 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Hanoi.
