Vietnam boosts cooperation with AIPA, Thailand

National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan's attendance at the 40th General Assembly of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and her visit to Thailand from August 25-30 have boosted Vietnam's cooperation with ASEAN parliamentaries and strengthened Vietnam-Thailand strategic partnership.

Delivering an important speech at the first plenary session of AIPA 40, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan  stressed that AIPA and its parliamentarians are willing to partner with ASEAN to build a sustainable community with peace, stability, rule of law, people-centered operations and unity.

At the closing session of AIPA 40, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan assumed the role of AIPA Chair from Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives Chuan Leekpai.

She said the National Assembly of Vietnam will continue innovating AIPA activities as well as increasing the role and position of the AIPA in building the ASEAN community.

She added that through activities within the framework of the AIPA, Vietnam will continue enhancing cooperation between the AIPA and the ASEAN, international organizations and multilateral cooperation mechanisms to boost the implementation of commitments and plans outlined in the building of the ASEAN Community, with a vision to 2025.


On the sidelines of AIPA 40, NA Chairwoman Ngan met with Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives Habib El Malki and President of the Cambodian National Assembly Heng Samrin.

During her official visit to Thailand, Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan held talks with Speaker of the Thai House of Representatives Chuan Leekpai, met Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha and Speaker of the Thai Senate Pornpetch Wichitcholchai.

She visited Udon Thani province and met its Governor Watana Puttichat. On this occasion, the top legislator visited the relic site on President Ho Chi Minh and met with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Udon Thani. She also  visited Vietnamese language teaching classes in Khanh An pagoda, with over 100 members who are children of overseas Vietnamese and Thais.
