Vietnam-Cambodia lifts ties to new level

On September 24- 26, 2012, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni paid a State-level official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of State President Truong Tan Sang. The visit contributed significantly to bringing the relationship between Vietnam and Cambodia to new heights, for the prosperous development of each country, for peace, stability, cooperation and development in East Asia and in the world.
During his stay in Vietnam, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni met with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Truong Tan Sang, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

During their talks, the Vietnamese leaders spoke highly of the significance of the visit, saying that it took place when the two countries were celebrating Friendship Year 2012 and the 45th anniversary of diplomatic ties, and believed the visit would help deepen the traditional friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The leaders also congratulated the Cambodian people on the achievements they have made over the years, including their maintenance of political security, high economic growth, improved living standards and the country’s increasing role in regional and world arenas.
The leaders also informed the Cambodian King about Vietnam’s achievements over the last 20 years after the doi moi (renewal) process. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties on June 24, 1967, Vietnam and Cambodia have been constantly strengthening their political relations following the motto “good neighborliness, traditional friendship, all-round cooperation and long-term sustainability”. They also affirmed Vietnam’s consistent policy on attaching importance to continuously fostering the relations with Cambodia.

Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni expressed his deep gratitude to the Vietnamese Party, State, Government and people for their valuable support and assistance to Cambodia in the past and at present. He affirmed that he would follow his father, Norodom Sihanouk, and mother, Monineath Sihanouk, in consolidating and further developing the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and peoples.

In the atmosphere of solidarity and mutual understanding, both sides agreed that the traditional solidarity and friendship were an invaluable asset of the both nations, and an important factor in each country’s national defense and construction which needs to be fostered and handed down to later generations, and the necessity of improving of bilateral relations on legislature, and the localities of two countries.

The leaders also expressed their pleasure at good development in friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the two countries in recent years and agreed to strengthen the bilateral relationship, for the interest of each country’s people, peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and in the world.
