Hoi An chicken rice

Chicken rice, a popular dish is recommended for visitors to the ancient town of Hoi An.
The chicken rice dish has been around since the 1950s in Hoi An, Quang Nam province. The area of Tam Ky is known for its rich flavorful chicken which is why the dish originates from there. Back then Hoi An people used Tam Ky chicken to cook a special tasting chicken rice. In the past, it was easy to see many vendors serving chicken rice in every alley of Hoi An. Locals have since opened many restaurants to serve this wonderful dish to visitors.

Hoi An chicken rice.

We met the chef of Tasty Hoi An, Nguyen Thai, a man from the north of Vietnam. To cook original Hoi An chicken rice, he went to Quang Nam to learn how to cook it for four years. The more Thai learned about how to cook chicken rice, the more he liked it. For him, the dish not only is a familiar food, but it also expresses a cultural trait of the locality.

After several years of working at some restaurants in Hoi An, Thai returned to Hanoi to introduce the specialty to both domestic and foreign visitors.
