Vietnam – Cuba Enhance their Friendship, Solidarity and Brotherhood

State President Tran Dai Quang and his wife successfully wrapped up an official visit to Cuba from November 15-17, 2016. The visit took place in the context that Cuba has had significant socio-economic achievements and important diplomatic progresses in the international arena. Therefore, it is an important period for the two nations to boost their friendship, solidarity and comprehensive cooperation in many aspects.
During the talks with President Raul Castro, in a warm atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, State President Tran Dai Quang congratulated Cuba on its huge socio-economic achievements and important diplomatic progress over the years which help create a new position and strength for the country and continue enhancing the role of Cuba in international areas.

Based on the special traditional friendship between the two countries, the leaders agreed that the two countries have great potential for cooperation. They reached a consensus on continuing the instruction to improve the efficiency of on-going and future projects in agro-fisheries, facilitating market navigation of both country’s businesses, and launching joint projects on tourism infrastructure, construction materials and consumer goods. The leaders also agreed to consider the possibility of establishing appropriate mechanisms to enhance collaboration in research, testing and manufacturing pharmaceuticals as well as boosting ties in culture, sports, tourism, training, transport, justice and finance-banking.

The leaders vowed to continue maintaining and improving the efficiency of existing cooperation mechanisms, including the deputy ministerial-level strategic defense dialogue and the deputy foreign ministerial-level consultation; accelerating negotiations towards the signing of a new-generation trade agreement which will replace the one signed in 1996, making it easier for bilateral economic-trade and investment activities.
Regarding international issues, the country’s leaders reached consensus on the settlement of international disputes by peaceful means on the basis of respecting international law, and principles of independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and self-determination of countries, not intervening into each other’s internal affairs, nor using or threatening to use force.
On the occasion, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Cuba, President Raul Castro presented the Jose Marti Oder– the noblest distinction of the Cuban State – to State President Tran Dai Quang.
