Micronesian Congress Speaker begins official visit to Vietnam

Speaker of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia Wesley W. Simina and his spouse Ancelly Simina began their official visit to Vietnam on June 5.

The visit, which will last until June 15, has been made at the invitation of Chairwoman of the National Assembly (NA) Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

Wesley W. Simina was accompanied by Vice Speaker of the Congress Esmond B. Moses, Micronesian Ambassador to China and Vietnam Carl Apis and other officials.

Vietnam and Micronesia officially set up diplomatic ties on September 22, 1995. Speaker of the Micronesian Congress Isaac V. Figir paid an official visit to Vietnam in January 2008.

Micronesia donated 25,000 USD to Vietnam to address consequences caused by typhoon Haiyan in 2013. Meanwhile, Vietnam also sent 50,000 USD as relief aid to Micronesia in 2015 when storm Maysak swept through Micronesia.
