Viet-Tiep Lock Joint-Stock Company

Viet-Tiep Lock Joint-Stock Company in Dong Anh District, Hanoi is the largest lock producer in Vietnam with a production capacity of 16 million products of different types a year to meet the domestic demand and for export.
For over 40 years, the company has experienced different stages of development. In 1974, Hanoi Lock Enterprise, the predecessor of Viet-Tiep Lock Joint-Stock Company, was established with an investment from Czechoslovakia for the production line, capable of producing one million products a year. During the subsidiary period, the company faced tremendous difficulties and even came to a deadlock because of low productivity, only reaching 30-35% of the designed capacity, and having few consumer markets for its products. The employees had to take turns being laid off work. However, the company has now strongly developed with a new appearance.

Visiting the company, we saw a convoy of containers, one following another, standing in line to wait to be loaded with goods. According to Nguyen Van Loi, Assistant General Director of the company, over the years the company has concentrated on resolving difficulties left by the subsidiary period, training human resources, conducting research to create new products to meet the market’s demand and promoting the popularisation of their products.

As a result, by the end of 1990 the company’s productivity reached 800,000 products of 10 types which had beautiful designs and high quality, satisfying the customers’ tastes. In 1994 the company for the first time produced over one million locks, reaching 100% of the designed capacity. Since 2003 the company has continually invested in advanced technology and production lines. More than 90% of obsolete machines and equipment were replaced by those imported from Japan, Germany and Taiwan and 60% of the production process is automated. In 2005, the company was equitised.

Experiencing 40 years of development, the company has now become the leading prestigious lock producer in the country with a production capacity of 16 million products of hundreds of types a year, 16 times more than that during its initial period. The company now provides its products to many foreign companies having investment in Vietnam, such as Asahi Den So, Chiu Yi, Yamaha and Yuzuki and it is a prestigious partner of some leading groups like LF (France), Stanley (the US) and Soprano (Brazil). Apart from the domestic market, the company has exported many products to Kuwait, South Africa, Cuba, Nigeria, Laos, Cambodia and Dubai.

Thanks to their high quality, the company’s products have been selected as “High-quality Vietnamese products” for 13 consecutive years. It was also awarded “the Prize for Vietnamese Quality” by the Ministry of Science and Technology and more than 100 gold medals at national fairs.
