Tay Ethnic’s Traditional Wedding Ceremony

Tay people call their wedding ceremony "kin lau", which is typically held over two days, with the bride's family hosting the celebration on the first day and the groom's family on the second. The beautiful aspects of traditional Tay culture are shown through the rituals of requesting the bride, welcoming the groom, and escorting the bride.

During the wedding ceremony, as traditional rituals are performed, representatives from the groom’s and bride’s families “communicate” through a lyrical exchange of song and verse; the singing of “Quan lang” is an indispensable part of this process. These songs embody the family's affection as well as the guidance and counsel that parents offer their children.

The ceremony also features the custom of stretching a rope to welcome guests to the ritual of formally requesting the bride and the journey to the groom's home by raft, every detail showcases a unique cultural feature preserved by the Tay people across generations./.
