Relics of Shakyamuni Buddha Honored in Hanoi

Shakyamuni Buddha’s Sacred Śarīra - a national treasure of India - has been brought to and enshrined at Quan Su Pagoda in Hanoi on May 13 afternoon within the framework of the United Nations Day of Vesak Celebrations 2025 (Vesak 2025).

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha held a solemn procession to receive the Buddha’s relics, which passed through several central streets in Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem District—including Ly Thuong Kiet, Hang Bai, Dinh Tien Hoang, Le Thai To, and Ba Trieu—before returning to Quan Su Pagoda.

The arrival of the sacred relics of Shakyamuni Buddha in Vietnam, part of the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak celebrations, is seen by many as a once-in-a-millennium event—offering Buddhists and the public a rare opportunity for veneration and reflection.

The relics are currently enshrined on the first floor of the main hall at Quan Su Pagoda, where monks, followers, and the general public can come to pay their respects from 7:00 AM to 9:30 PM daily, from May 14 to 16, 2025.

From May 17 to 21, the relics will be moved to Tam Chuc Pagoda in Ha Nam Province for continued public viewing and worship. After this period, the sacred relics will be returned to India.
