The recent visit
to Vietnam by Norwegian King Harald V, Queen Sonja and high-ranking
officials has contributed to enhancing mutual understanding and further
boosting friendship and cooperation in many areas between the two
countries.
In talks with Vietnamese Party
General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, President Tran Duc Luong, Prime Minister
Phan Van Khai and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Van An, the Norwegian
King expressed his deep impression on the Vietnamese people's strong
vitality. In their part, the Vietnamese leaders affirmed Vietnam's
attention to relations with European countries in general and Norway in
particular.
On this occasion, the two
countries signed a memorandum on the development of Vietnam-Norway
cooperation in the coming years, an agreement on the project "Building
Vietnam Aquatic Law and under-law documents in Phase 2", and the project
to improve the environment in Ho Chi Minh City.
During their stay in Vietnam,
Queen Sonja attended the exhibition on Vietnam-Norway Contemporary Arts
and presented the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum some works by Norwegian painter
P. Clayva. She also visited the Vietnam Ethnology Museum and attended the
seminar "Vietnam.
The Norwegian King and Queen
also visited the imperial city of Hue and Ho Chi Minh City, and called at
some Norwegian-funded projects in Binh Duong and Ba Ria-Vung Tau
Provinces.
