The development of Lien Chieu Port is opening a new chapter for Da Nang’s marine economy, positioning the central city as a major logistics and maritime hub for central Vietnam and the wider region.
For decades, Tien Sa Port has served as the region’s main maritime gateway. But growing demand has put pressure on its space and operations under the current dual-use model. Under the new plan, Tien Sa will gradually focus on tourism and cruise services, while large-scale cargo handling will shift to Lien Chieu.

Located at the foot of Hai Van Pass on the northern shore of Da Nang Bay, Lien Chieu is being developed as a strategic infrastructure project. Covering about 450 hectares of land and water, the port has a total investment of more than 45 trillion dong (over 1.7 billion US dollars) and is designed to handle up to 50 million tons of cargo a year.
