Hanoi performs 5 key tasks to ensure food safety

In the first three months of 2021, Hanoi strengthened the inspection of food safety across the city, focusing on post-inspection, irregular inspection and sanctioning of administrative violations in the field of food safety.
In 2021, Hanoi will focus on implementing five key tasks in ensuring food safety. These are, strengthening food safety inspection throughout the city, especially focusing on post-public inspection, irregular inspections, sanctioning of administrative violations in the field of food safety, implementing activities under the health-population program in 2021, including activities to prevent and combat food poisoning and food-borne diseases, activities to strengthen food safety testing capacity and implementing pilot and thematic models of food safety in 2021.

Along with that, the city will strengthen communication regarding food safety. Hanoi will coordinate with the press to promote food safety, to identify safe food and connect sources to supply and consume safe products. The city will integrate food safety propaganda with epidemic prevention.

"After Free Trade Agreements (FTA) took effect, especially CPTPP and EVFTA, the Hanoi Sub-department of Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance implemented a number of solutions such as: strengthening food safety inspection, taking samples to monitor quality indicators (particular priority being given to imported products), monitoring of production areas and key products of the city, local analysis of safety indicators including residues of antibiotics, the use of plant protection drugs , and the use of veterinary drugs. The objective is to achieve a 10% reduction in samples violating food safety criterion, when compared to 2020”.

Hanoi will strengthen monitoring to support food safety where meals are provided and ensure food safety at meetings, conferences and domestic and international political events held in Hanoi. The city will apply information technology to solve food safety administrative procedures in the right order and on time.

According to the report, Hanoi currently has 83,712 establishments producing, trading and processing foodstuffs, 7 industrial slaughterhouses, 58 semi-industrial slaughterhouses, 673 manual slaughterhouses, 454 markets, 141 supermarkets, 25 commercial centers and 5,044 hectares of safe vegetables which are managed and supervised. Food production by the city meets about 60% of consumer demand, the rest is imported from other provinces and overseas.

It is expected that in 2021, the city will establish more than 900 food safety inspection teams to organize inspections of 85 thousand establishments. In addition, city authorities are also expected to collect 1.2 thousand food samples for testing results and it is expected that about 2,000 food safety certificates will be issued to qualified establishments.

In 2021, the agriculture sector of Hanoi will strengthen inspection, assessment and classification of agricultural, forestry and fishery production facilities. This is considered an important solution to strictly manage products from the original source to give the best results.
