Final session of the 14th legislature decides on top leadership positions

The 14th National Assembly (NA) concluded its 11th session - the last of this tenure - in Hanoi on April 8.
In his closing address, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that after 12 days of urgent, serious, and responsible working, the legislature completed all of its agenda, making the 11th sitting a success. The NA comprehensively summarized the performance of State agencies in the 2016-2021 tenure and decided upon personnel tasks and other important matters.
 
The legislature spent a lot of time discussing and evaluating working reports from the NA, the State President, the Government, NA bodies, the Supreme People’s Court, the Supreme People’s Procuracy, and the State Audit Office, he said.

The NA elected the NA Chairman, the Chairman of the National Election Council, the State President, the Prime Minister, three NA Vice Chairpersons, the Vice State President, five members of the NA Standing Committee, the heads of three NA committees, the NA Secretary General and the State Auditor General. The NA also approved the appointment of two Deputy Prime Ministers, 12 other Government members, three vice chairpersons and seven members of the National Election Council, and the Vice Chairperson and three members of the National Defence and Security Council.

as State President for the 2016-2021 term on April 5, during the 14th legislature’s 11th sitting. 
 
The National Assembly (NA) elected Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Politburo member of the 13th tenure and a deputy of the 14th legislature, as State President for the 2016-2021 term on April 5 morning, during the 14th legislature’s 11th sitting.

With 468 approval votes or 97.5 percent of the total NA deputies, the legislature passed a resolution on the election.

The resolution came into force right after it won the approval of the NA.

President Phuc was born on July 20, 1954 in the central province of Quang Nam. He was Politburo member of the 11th, 12th and 13th tenures, member of the Party Central Committee of the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th tenures, and NA deputy of the 11th, 13th and 14th tenures.

The National Assembly (NA) adopted a resolution on the election of Pham Minh Chinh as the Prime Minister for the 2016-2021 tenure on April 5 afternoon.

The resolution won over the support of 462 of the 466 legislators present at the sitting, equivalent to 96.25 percent of the total NA deputies, and took effect immediately after the adoption.

Earlier, legislators elected the new PM by secret ballot.

Pham Minh Chinh, born on December 10, 1958, is a member of the Party Central Committee in the 11th, 12th and 13th tenures, a Politburo member in the 12th and 13th tenures, Secretary of the Party Central Committee in the 12th tenure, Chairman of the Party Central Committee’s Organisation Commission and head of the committee’s sub-committee for internal political protection in the 12th tenure, an NA deputy in the 14th tenure, and Chairman of the Vietnam - Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group of the 14th NA.

Vuong Dinh Hue, Politburo member and Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, was elected as Chairman of the National Assembly (NA) and the National Election Council (NEC) at the 11th sitting of the 14th legislature on March 31 morning.

On behalf of the NA Standing Committee, NA Secretary General and Chairman of the NA Office Nguyen Hanh Phuc presented a draft resolution on the election of the Chairperson of the NA and the NEC through secret ballots.

All of the 473 deputies present at the sitting, or 98.54 percent of the total number of NA deputies, cast “yes” ballots, electing Hue to the positions.

With the support of the majority of legislators, the National Assembly (NA) on April 8 morning adopted a resolution approving the Prime Minister’s proposal to appoint 12 new ministers and Government members for the 2016-2021 tenure.

At the closing session, with 436 votes in favor out of 437 deputies present, or 90.83 percent of all lawmakers, the National Assembly passed a resolution on the 2016-2021 working plans of the NA, State President, Government, NA bodies, Supreme People’s Court, Supreme People’s Procuracy, and State Audit Office.
