CADI-Sun Targets Becoming a Multi-national Group

From a private production unit, Thuong Dinh Electric Wire & Cable Joint Stock Company (CADI-SUN) has developed into one of Vietnam’s top enterprises in producing electric wires and cables which are now  exported to many countries in southeast Asia. In its development strategy, it has targeted becoming a multinational and multi-sector group.

Recalling the days of “starting-up” 30 years ago, Pham Luong Hoa, CEO of CADI-SUN, said: “In 1984, Thuong Dinh Cooperative, the predecessor of CADI-SUN, mainly manufactured mechanical and electrical appliances which experienced a slump  because of the impact from the economic crisis. The  cooperative was on the brink of ruin. Facing tremendous difficulties, the complex decided to shift to producing and trading electrical wires and cables. A good start   promises a bright future for the company”.

During the first days of its establishment, CADI-SUN produced hundreds of electric wire rods (each 200m long). Thanks to diverse designs, the company’s products are much sought after by customers. To improve the quality of their products, the company invested in modern equipment and machines.

In 2000, CADI-SUN built its large factory No.1 in an area of 6,062m2 in Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi with a total investment of more than 50 billion dong. The factory was equipped with an electric cable production line with technology from RoK and Taiwan.

CADI-SUN products were used on many large projects in Vietnam, including the Son La Hydropower Plant, the lighting project on the Bai Chay Bridge, the Dung Quat Industrial Zone, the Rural Energy II project in the North and the National Convention Centre.

In 2002, when Vietnam promoted the process of “modernisation and industrialisation” with many national electricity networks being built, such as 500kV, 220kV, 110KV transmission systems, hydro-electric plants and thermal plants, CADI-SUN started its project, Rural Energy II Project (REII) from the World Trade Bank’s priotised capital to wait for opportunities brought by the above projects.

In October 2003, CADI-SUN continued investing over 100 billion dong to build factory No.2 in an area of 46,000m2 in Cam Dien Commune, Cam Giang District, Hai Duong Province. CADI-SUN successfully built a lab with international standards ISO/IEC 17025, expanded production facilities, and invested in updated machines and equipment to increase production capacity. To promote trade, CADI-SUN established branches and storage facilities in Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Da Nang and Tay Nguyen. It also produced  a series of new products, such as multi-functional sockets, plugs and  magnetic wires used in electronic assembly. Thanks to their high-quality, CADI-SUN’s products have been used for most of the projects, industrial parks and hydro-power, thermo-power plants throughout the country.

Many large groups in the world have selected CADI-SUN as a strategic partner for cooperation and investment such as Samone Group, Dongyang Group, Cosmolink Group, Shang Jin Group and  Vinadual, a large group of RoK which specialises in producing electric and electronic  spare parts for big companies, such as Sam Sung and LG. The company also signed a contract on investment and technology transfer with Cosmolink (RoK).

In 2008, CADI-SUN continued building a factory to produce  low-voltage,  medium-voltage and high-voltage PVC, XLPE insulated electric cables and wires in Binh Duong Province and signed a contract on investment cooperation and technology transfer  with Dongyang group (RoK) with its main product of high-grade magnetic electricity wires.

The year 2011 marked the development of CADI-SUN’s exports with a turnover growth rate of 139% over that in 2010.  PVC plastic grains and electrical cables are the company’s main exports to Malaysia, Laos and Myanmar.  To further promote production, the company built Truong Duong Industrial Complex and a Craft Village Industrial Complex  in a total area of over 35ha.

In 2012, it was granted RoHS and VDE certificates for recognition of the company’s products meeting European quality standards. It was an important factor for the company to boost its product in foreign markets.

In 2014, the  company’s turnover growth rate reached 37%, the electric cable productivity increased 29% and the average income of employees increased 16% over the same period of 2013. In 2015, CADI-Sun expects to increase its turnover of 15% over 2014.

With the target of sustainable development, in the future, CADI-SUN will continue to expand cooperation and joint investment with large domestic and overseas economic groups. Investing to expand production, develop sales and market share, will gradually build CADI-SUN into a powerful economic-industrial group, creating a firm position not only in the country, but also reaching the regional and global market.
