| Although Manh Ha was born in Thai Binh Province, he chose Bac
Ninh, the cradle of Quan Ho (love duets singing), the place to
begin his career. His desire to live and paint in an environment rich in
folk song and traditional art of lacquer is fully satisfied in this
Northern rural area.
It
is the simple and daily life that arouses Manh Ha’s inspiration. After his
tour to Sa Pa, a northern mountainous resort, in seeing with his own eyes
the romantic Love Market and the rural life, Manh Ha seemed lost in the
vague and illusory culture of this upland region, full of simplicity and
romance. All moments of time inspires the artist’s soul, urging his
creativity to take shape in a painting.
In his 38 paintings, Manh Ha shows
his strong points in using the traditional lacquer material with colour
traits of yellow, red, black, brownish, in harmonious combination of
sophisticated inlaid egg shell, a close and condensed composition and
innocent and spontaneous characters. All these contribute to the
“simplicity and romance” of Manh Ha’s works.
