National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung’s Visit to Promote the Vietnam-China Political Trust

During his official friendly visit to China from December 23-27,in the spirit of straightforwardness and honesty,  National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and Chinese leaders discussed and mapped out orientations for cooperation in the future, especially fostering political trust for mutual interest and for a peaceful and prosperous life of the two countries’ people.
National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung met with China’s Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Yu Zhengsheng, held talks with Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China (NPC) Zhang Dejiang and visited some localities.

During their talks, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung and Chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC Zhang Dejian discussed and exchanged measures to step up comprehensive cooperation between the two legislatures, promote the  exchange of experience on law making, deciding important issues  and supervising  the implementation of political, economic and social tasks of each country.  The two leaders signed a cooperation agreement between the two legislative bodies, opening up a new cooperation period of their agencies.

During talks and meetings, the two legislative leaders also exchanged views on the East Sea issue in a straightforward manner. National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung underlined that it is an important issue between the two countries’ relations because it reduces the trust and make the two countries’ people feel unsafe. Therefore, the two leaders agreed to enhance exchanges and continue with consultations and negotiations with a view to controlling the situation, preventing the occurrence of complications and exploring long-term solutions for the issue in line with international law and ensuring both sides’ interest.

According to Chairman of the National Assembly’s External Relations Committee Tran Van Hang, this is the first visit to China by the Chairman of the 13th National Assembly, and also the first high-level legislative visit of Vietnam and China in eight years. Therefore, the visit aimed to not only promote relations between Vietnamese and Chinese legislative bodies, but also perform the NA’s supervisory role on the implementation of common perception reached between the two countries’ leaders.

After over 50 years of diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Australia have built a solid and comprehensive relationship based on mutual strategic trust and understanding. During the official visit to Australia by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in March, upon the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, both sides announced the upgrade of their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
