Gorgeous souvenirs from Vietnam

Five young people created Bach Moc, a brand of souvenir wooden crafts, to show the deftness and creativeness of Vietnamese.
Bach Moc was set up in 2016 by Hoang Thu Thao, Tran Thi Ngoc Dung, Ngo Van Cuong, Vu Thi Hoan and Hoang Thi Bich Ngoc who share a common interest in creating handmade souvenirs for tourists.

The designs and construction of Bach Moc products are all made by its founders even though none of them have studied graphic design or the arts.

The designs of Bach Moc products are unique and creative and seek to promote Vietnamese cultural identity. Bach Moc popular souvenirs include shapes of a Vietnamese woman, one pillar pagoda, Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, the Temple of Literature, notebooks, key holders, photo frames, photo albums, cell phone cases and greeting cards.

All Bach Moc items are made from industrial wood and created with laser technology which helps turn out sophisticated products.

“The making of Bach Moc items requires special care and creativity to turn out sophisticated products”, said Ngo Van Cuong, one of Bach Moc’s founders who is in charge of manufacturing. Being careful is particularly important because a minor error in the pattern carving stage means the entire product is discarded. This same attention to detail is also required in the product assembly stage. This final step is done by part timers who are students.

Bach Moc products are diverse because items of the same product line have different versions depending on the creativeness of their designers. Bach Moc has a team of six designers who have thoroughly studied the market demands based on the age and taste of both Vietnamese and foreign customers.

“Bach Moc’s goal is to create user-friendly products which are modern but bear typical Vietnamese characteristics”, said founder Hoang Thu Thao. The idea of building Bach Moc brand came from the founders' desire to compete with Chinese imports in the souvenir gift market.
