Vietnam – Iran Direct to Reach 2 Billion Dollars in trade

The president of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani has wrapped successfully his State-level visit to Vietnam at the invitation of State President Tran Dai Quang, from October 5-7, 2016. The visit aimed at tightening the relations and discussing measures to boost cooperation in many aspects between the two countries. During the visit, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani met with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, held talks with State President Tran Dai Quang and had a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
During their talks, the two sides agreed to strengthen the exchange of visits on the State, National Assembly, Government, local and business channels.  They will soon organise the 9th meeting of the Vietnam – Iran Inter-Governmental Committee so as to carry out the agreements reached during the visit and consultation on regional and global issues on the basis of general principles accepted by the international community.

The leaders affirmed the significance of speeding up cooperation in fields of information technology, telecommunications, agriculture, energy, security and other aspects. The Vietnamese sides acknowledged Iran’s proposal on establishing joint committees in banking and investment.

The two sides reached a consensus on promoting bilateral cooperation in trade and investment; pledged to facilitate their enterprises’ access to each other’s market to seek business and investment opportunities; towards the goal of lifting bilateral trade to 2 billion dollars.

They also agreed to foster consultation and exchange in combat against smuggling and cross-border crimes, cyber-crimes and reinforce related cooperative mechanisms; promote higher education, tourism, health care, youth affairs, sports and immigration, and create favorable conditions for immigration of the two countries.

On the occasion, the leaders witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding in information technology, telecommunication and an agreement of visa exemption for official passport holders.


 

The Vietnam – Iran bilateral trade volume reached 106.7 million dollars in 2015, including 77.2 million dollars from Vietnamese exports. The figure was 54 million dollars in the first half of 2016, including 35.3 million dollars from Vietnam

After over 50 years of diplomatic relations, Vietnam and Australia have built a solid and comprehensive relationship based on mutual strategic trust and understanding. During the official visit to Australia by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in March, upon the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, both sides announced the upgrade of their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
