President visits school, monuments in Havana

Havana, November 17 (VNA) – President Tran Dai Quang and his wife visited an elementary school named after Vietnamese patriotic hero Nguyen Van Troi in Cuba’s capital Havana on November 16 (Cuban time), on the occasion of his official visit to Cuba.

The Vietnamese President was given a warm welcome by teachers and students of Nguyen Van Troi School, who chanted slogans on Vietnam-Cuba solidarity and performed a play on the bravery of hero Nguyen Van Troi on the execution ground.

The President also met with managerial officials of Bac Ho and Vo Thi Thang schools, which are named after the Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh and a heroine in Vietnam’s national liberation cause.

Speaking to Cuban education officials and delegates from the Cuban schools, President Tran Dai Quang said the naming of schools after Vietnamese heroes reflects the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, and helps educate the young generations on the revolutionary traditions and close bonds between the two nations.

The same day, the President and his entourage laid wreaths at the Ho Chi Minh monument in Ho Chi Minh Park and the Jose Marti monument in Havana.

Talking to local residents, President Tran Dai Quang said he will discuss with Cuban leaders measures to further strengthen the fraternal ties and comprehensive cooperation between the Parties, States and people of the two countries.
