Vietnam's mobile subscriptions drop

Hanoi, December 28 (VNA) - Vietnam had 120.6 million mobile subscriptions by the end of this year, according to a report from the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority.

The number of mobile subscriptions fell by nearly 20 million from 138.6 million of last year.

Therefore, the mobile subscription density of this year also decreased to 133 subscriptions per 100 people from 140 subscriptions per 100 people last year.

However, talking to the ICTnews, a telecommunications expert said that the statistics did not reflect the decline of mobile users, it indicated that the country's network providers had operated more effectively as more spam subscriptions had been eliminated.

According to some network providers, the calling service trend declined due to the development of over-the-top (OTT) trend.

However, 3G services have grown significantly, so that it has made up for the revenue of network providers.

The proportion of Internet users in Vietnam has reached 52 percent out of Vietnamese population by the end of November this year.

Of these, there are 36.2 million subscriptions of mobile broadband Internet, with the rate of 40.1 subscribers per 100 people.
According to a statistic on subscription, Viettel ranked first on the mobile market, followed by MobiFone and VinaPhone.

Tran Manh Hung, chairman of VNPT's member council, said that VNPT was focusing on investing in 3G network with high speed.

The VNPT's business indicators have seen good growth in many provinces and cities, the group's economic index exceeded 30 percent year on year, the ICTnews quoted the chairman.

With the growth and development, VNPT's Vinaphone expected that it would be the second biggest network provider on the mobile market by the beginning of next year.
