Hanoi, April 9 (VNA) – Admiral Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Minister of Defence and Vietnam People’s Navy Commander hosted a reception for the visiting Secretary of the Navy of the United States Ray Mabus on April 9 in Hanoi.
At the reception, the admiral underscored the growing cooperation between the two nations in defence over recent years, particularly between their navies.
Their collaborative work has been strengthened by many exchange visits between the two naval forces and regular visits of US ships to Vietnam. Both sides have learnt about each other’s strengths and capacity in the process, he said.
Hien affirmed that the ongoing visit of his US counterpart has strengthened the relations between the two defence ministries as well as the naval forces.
For his part, Ray Mabus expressed his hope for both sides to engage in more effective and practical cooperation, particularly in the fields of training, search and rescue and maritime security and safety. He said this would further develop Vietnam-US relations.
